So tonight I drew Chaplin in ’The Kid’, which is a beautiful film. His autobiography is certainly worth a read too if you’re into that era of Hollywood. And he does the most amazing name dropping in it- ‘So yeah, that summer we had Einstein and his wife over for dinner, but whatever, you know, no big deal. And then I met the queen or something, and we chilled, she cool.’

Still practising my digital colouring. This time on a piece I did a couple of months back.

Was watching ‘Coco before Chanel’ last night. It was pretty good, though I was much more interested in how she built her company and image, rather than all the fellas she was with, which is where the focus of the film was. Audrey Tautou, as always, was excellent.
Anyway, I just loved the costume design in it as well, so as I was watching I sketched this out. Like most drawing recently, I don’t even know why I did this, I think Im absorbing all the valentines schmaltz around me (The lady in black originally was holding flowers behind her back, but I couldn’t get the composition to work). I just liked the contrast in the film between all the over the top frilly Renoir-style outfits, and Chanel’s elegant simplicity.
