Independance Day was just on Film 4. Whenever that film’s on, I know my evening’s over, because I just have to watch it all the way through. I must’ve seen it about fifty times now.
I know it’s stupid, and ridiculously gung-ho, and if it was any cheesier you could melt it onto toast, but it’s just such an enjoyable watch. The cast are all great (even if most of them are crazily stereotyped), the script is great (The banter between Goldblum and Smith is brilliant) the action is bloody wonderful….I just really love that film.

Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s stupid - The aliens are running a Mac operating system in their mothership? The president leads the counter attack? The french all live in lighting-topped castles?
But I can’t help myself. I’ll try to balance it out tomorrow by watching something by Jean Luc Goddard.

Although, wouldn’t Armaggeddon make just THE best double bill with ID4? Maybe Ill watch that instead- ‘the asteroid knows we’re here to kill it!’
